that nike is a hot brand. it's also one of oregon's biggest employers. and now the company is forcing the state's hand saying it wants a 40-year tax deal in exchange for bringing in new jobs or else. cnbc's own brian shactman joins us now with much more. good evening, brian. >> hi, larry. nike is the second biggest employer in the state of oregon. in fact, one of only two fortune 500 companies that have headquarters there. and basically they told the governor they want to expand and if they don't get tax certainty, they are going to be free agents and there are several states trying to poach them. the governor called a special session to pass legislation that says any company, nike, that spend $150 million in new investments over five years could get what they call single sales factor status. i want to explain it to people. that is taxing nike based on in-state sales, not just the combination of sales, real estate value and payroll taxes. it's an absolutely sweet deal for nike. whether it's 40 years or five years, it's going to be in between that range. but it shows you how important

in the shooting at that oregon mall. a 15-year-old was shot in the chest. remains hospitalized in serious condition. her family says she was taking a short cut going through the mall on her way home from school. none of the three knew the shooter. he's 22-year-old jacob tileler roberts. investigators say he stole an ar 15 semi automatic rifle tuesday from someone he knew. this is what though say happened. he went through macy's to this food court area this, is where he did most of the shooting. his gun jammed he ran to a stairwell apparently working to unjam the gun. he ran. >> the gun is jammed. he says this is the last place he saw them go. he fired out here, then, the gun jammed. >> that was the call dispatchers heard. they rushed 100 officers and deputies to the mall. the shooter was wearing a white hockey style face mass skpk a vest. >> they came down the stairs to lower level. back in this corner. it's where he shot him. >> inside of the mall, 10,000 shoppers told to raise hands and head for the exits or stay locked down inside of the stores. deputies and employees had rehearsed thi

a bit of snow in california, still a foot of snow across portions of cascades and washington and oregon we're talking close to two feet. very good news for anyone doing skiing. good news is this storm system is on the move we'll finally start to see improvement in weather conditions across portions of the west coast, seattle, down to california. christmas leave looks more tranquil. that snow will dumping snow in portions of rockies and colorado and wyoming. we'll be accumulating snowfall and eventually this storm is going to head into the center of the country. it will be a pretty strong storm and very cold air with it. so definitely we're going to be talking about snow accumulations texas panhandle, parts of arkansas and missouri and illinois. some of these countries don't see a white christmas. so we're talking about quite a bit of snow, up to six inches locally and higher amounts, a winter storm watch has been issued across the state of oklahoma. good news for anyone that wants snow in the center of the country. christmas eve, messy day out in southeast and thunderstorms ahead of tha

"anything under $10 an hour is obscene. it's not enough to live in any city in the u.s." there's now a push to raise the federal minimum wage. "the minimum wage needs to be raised. it hasn't been raised in some time. we should consider indexing it to inflation." in 2004, voters in florida approved indexing the minimum wage to the cost of living. colorado voters did the same thing two years later. they are among ten states where that connection is made and where wages go up january first. in florida, the 12-cent increase, to $7.79 an hour, will benefit 210,000 workers. it'll add $370 to their annual wages and $46.2 million to florida's gdp. still, not enough, according to some. a lot of heavy snow among higher elevations across portions of oregon, over a foot of snow recorded and a lot of heavy rain. some spots picked up to 15 inches of rain across northern california. unfortunately we deal with mudslides and widespread flooding in california, oregon even into washington. fortunately we have relatively quiet weather through parts of california and portions of seattle. showers across the portions of the pacific northwest. as we head into tomorrow and wednesday we have a new storm system that will be arriving producing a lot of heavy rain, three to six inches. the ground is saturated from the last series of storm systems. this could pose big issues across the areas already hit very hard with all this rain. look at the future radar as we head into tuesday and wednesday more rain. basically the northern parts of the rockies we have snowfall. we'll see snowfall across portions of the west coast but even into the northern rockies. dealing with more moisture across portions of west coast even though we dealt with a number of storm systems. jon, very quickly anoth
